Online Club Meeting via Zoom Topic & Speaker: Victoria Porter - Co - Founder Jifunze International (member of Rotary Passport Club of Melbourne)
Born in Northern Ireland I migrated to Australia with my parents in 1998. I lived in QLD and had a strong focus on charity work through my school and my fathers work with Rotary.
When I finished school I spent a substantial time travelling. After returning to Australia and calling Melbourne home I completed a Bachelors in Business and Event Management and a Diploma in Youth work. During this time I spent significant time volunteering with the Salvation Army and Don Bosco Youth Centre. This was often the best part of my week.
In 2017 I visited Kitengela Kenya for the first time. I believed that it would be a one off volunteer tourism experience, however a series of events lead me to sponsoring a child to go to boarding school. Partnerships with Ujamaa Africa, Days for Girls and Rotary Clubs in D9550 lead to the achievements over the past three years.
Since that trip I have returned to Kenya three times, and I have started a Masters in International Development. This helps me to ensure that the team at Jifunze International and I are working within best practice frameworks with appropriate cultural recognition.
Three years on and with the recent formation of the board of Jifunze International I am pleased to discuss our achievements so far. Venue: | Zoom Online Meeting | Starting: | 6:30 PM | | Tuesday 25th August 2020 | Ending: | 7:30 PM |
