21 Years of Rotary + Special General Meeting

As you would know, every 3 years, The Council on Legislation of Rotary International meet to review and update the Rules of the Organisation including the Standard Rotary Club Constitutions and suggested Bylaws for clubs.

With the current changes, in addition to providing amendments as a result of the adopted changes, RI have also redrafted the constitution in simpler language and have provided a new Standard Rotary Club Constitution to all clubs.

Incorporated Clubs in Victoria also have additional rules as required by Victorian Legislation and we have been extremely lucky to have had David Whiting from District 9800 draft a new set of Club Rules (now known as a Club Constitution) which combines the SRCC (Standard Rotary Club Constitution) and Victorian Legislation as well as a new set of Bylaws for our club.

Our board has now reviewed these draft documents and recommend that the club adopt the new constitution and bylaws.

Other notable changes from our current rules include:

  • There are no longer limits around Classifications, but in their place, a statement that recognises diversity.
  • Proxy votes will be allowed at General Meetings (but not at this Special General meeting as per our current rules)
  • The process of a Membership Application has now been transferred from the Constitutions to the Bylaws.
  • Changes to the structure of membership categories of Honorary, Associate and Family members (Bylaws).
  • Addition of Club Membership Fee Structure to the Bylaws.
  • Update to the composition of the board (Bylaws) to include 3 or more directors in addition to the regular officers.
  • Board to meet at least monthly either at a physical location or online.

Copies of two motions were emailed to all members.

PS. Our District was represented at the 2019 Council of Legislation by PDG Dennis Shore and the next council in 2022 will be represented by PDG Murray Verso (alternate is PDG Peter Frueh).
