On Friday, May 17, the world marks IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia.
This year, Rotary will host a special evening event at St Kilda Town Hall, honouring what the day means both here in our community and around the world.
Featuring key note speaker Ro Allen, the Victorian Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality and local LGBTIQ performers, it will be a night of contemplation and celebration reflecting on our challenges and honouring our victories in our community. The evening will be complemented with a lively and entertaining cabaret show topped off by a DJ dance party with lots of pride anthems and classic hits for all ages!
Tickets are $45, or $30 for concession, with all profits going to LGBTIQ support service Switchboard Victoria. Visit www.rotaryprahran.org.au to reserve your spot.
Cocktail food is included, and drinks will be at reduced bar prices.
Don't miss this fun night for the entire rainbow community celebrating inclusion and diversity amongst friends and allies. Bring your friends, family and colleagues and visit rotaryprahran.org.au to book your tickets now!
IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia, marks the anniversary of the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder. It is a day for all people internationally to stand against discrimination and support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) mates, colleagues and families.
Rotary is committed to inclusion and diversity both within our membership of passionate volunteers and across the communities we serve. Through a growing network of LGBTIQ Rotarians, Rotaractors and allies across our local clubs and districts and the recently formed global LGBT Rotarians and Friends Fellowship, Rotary proudly supports LGBTIQ inclusion and diversity. Please visit https://lgbti.rotaract.org.au for more details about how you can get involved.
Thank you for your support. It will be great to see our club well represented on the night! Please share this with your friends, family and colleagues.
