This is the band's farewell performance prior to leaving for the Western Front on 2nd November to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice. The band will be performing a wreath laying service at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux which will be filmed by our documentary maker and live-streamed to Australia which will then be posted on the internet for later viewing. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of the mayor, staff and citizens of the Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay and Boroondarra City Councils as well as various RSL's, corporations and individuals.
We will also be taking an old rope-tensioned bass drum that we found in our band hall, complete with broken skin, back to the UK. There are six names etched inside the drum; the names of six Diggers who played the drum while our men marched around the training grounds at Sutton Veny, Salisbury Plain prior to being sent to the Western Front.
